Jayne Erickson Named 2004 Photographer of the Year

Artist and photographer Jayne Erickson recently recieved the South Dakota Photographer of the Year Award.The award was presented at the South Dakota Portrait Photographer’s Association’s Northern Lights Regional Convention. The annual competition was held March 20th thru the 24th in Sioux Falls.

Erickson recieved the top photographer award for four outstanding examples of photographic workmanship. The four entries also garnered a number of individual awards. Her work entitled “By the Light Moon” recieved a Best Illustrative Award and a Kodak Gallery Award, and her print “Dream Keeper” won a Fuji award.

“The judges are looking for work that isn’t typical,” Erickson said. “They want images that are unusual, that tell a story.” She said that in addition to lighting and compostition, many other components are considered when choosing award-winning entries, such as creative vision and impact.
